Strong Sockeye Season Projection and Simple Recipes

Cordova, Alaska— The Copper River/Prince William Sound Marketing Association is pleased to announce that they will be participating at Seafood Expo North America in Boston from March 16-18. Hosting Booth #1720, the Association will be on hand and at the ready to offer unique and timely insights and resources for buyers, wholesalers, chefs and other retailers.

Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game predicts a strong Copper River sockeye season with an excellent total run forecast of 2,638,000, which is 50% above the recent ten-year average. As such biologists are predicting a commercial harvest of 1,920,000 Copper River sockeye salmon. 

Given the strong forecast, the Association is gearing up!

Executive Director Christa Hoover reports that with such an upbeat projection for the 2025 season the Association is creating a new consumer focused campaign called, “Simplicity Shines with Copper River Salmon.” The campaign, set to launch in May, will feature straightforward recipes using seasonal fresh produce and basic pantry ingredients. During the season, the Association’s social media channels and website will feature cooking tips, suggestions, and easy variations of the basic recipes.

Hoover explains, “It’s been more than 40 years now since the legacy of fresh Copper River salmon leaped into the marketplace and captivated professional and home cooks alike. With that in mind, we feel it’s important to reach the next generation of seafood cooks and show them how with a few classic techniques and seasonal yet affordable ingredients, cooking our high quality and naturally rich Copper River salmon can be quick, creative, and fun!”
